Obamacare to Ransom Depend on What "It's" Is
The original promises of Obamacare were shattered--more Americans were insured because of provisions like the individual mandate and expanded Medicaid, but the "program" as proposed has not worked for those of us who never saw premium expenses go down (quite the opposite) the promised $2,500 a year, who never saw that we could keep our plans and doctors (the biggest lie of 2013), and so we watched as we were manipulated and reeducated into considering "enrollment" the only criteria of success, which itself has been lackluster stalled year after year far from the "47 million" number and hovering between as the government says, between 9.4 and 11.1 million for exchanges.
So there's room for justified skepticism in the President's sometimes rambling, often stuttering repetition of the Obamacare strategy when yesterday, 8/4/2016, he was discussing the alleged "ransom" of $400 million in cash paid to Iran.
For diehard fantasists who defend Obamacare, I'm sure they'll also glom onto the President's stuttering explanation about the payment of $400 million in cash to Iran as part of the Nuclear Deal this week as reported in the Wall Street Journal http://www.wsj.com/articles/u-s-sent-cash-to-iran-as-americans-were-freed-1470181874. But, there is room for worry.
It was eerie. Did you notice that the President's speech echoed the same strategy he's used successfully with Obamacare? 1-Denial 2-making fun of critics 3-claiming "transparency," and 4-finally asserting--IT'S WORKING. The August 4 speech was a chilling repetition of the pattern.
1- DENIAL- In 2009, in an interview the President asserted that there would be no new taxes, and that the individual mandate is NOT a tax, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdgPauuMmJI, obviously untrue and judicially determined untrue by the Supreme Court in 2012, which accepted the government's argument that it was a tax and therefore legal, http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/28/supreme-court-health-care-decision_n_1585131.html.
Similarly, yesterday, the President denied that the $400 million in cash paid to Iran was "ransom," https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HdMYJtRWWI, minute 22:07.
2-Making fun of critics- In 2009, the President sniped, "You can't just make up that language and decide that that's called a tax increase…" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2lexSwo4rI... Except that it was.
Yesterday 8/4/2016, the President sniped, "The notion that we would start now in this high-profile way and announce it to the world even as we're looking into the faces of other hostage families, uh, whose loved ones are being held hostage uh and say to them that we don't pay ransom uh, uh, defies logic," (minute 22:50, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HdMYJtRWWI.) Yes, it defies logic, but it doesn't mean it's untrue.
3- Claims of Transparency: When it came to Obamacare, there were so many "surprises," that for many of us it was no surprise when the Jonathan Gruber, architect of Obamacare asserted, "Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage. And basically, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever, but basically that was really, really critical to getting the thing to pass." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NJXEpiMyPM.
In spite of the President's 2006 statement that in creating Obamacare he consulted with thinkers "many of whom I've stolen ideas from liberally…Jon Gruber," https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7URNmSnfwzM, he asserted in 2014 after Gruber's dumb American comment came out that Gruber was "some adviser who never worked on our staff," attempting to wriggle out of his association and reliance on Gruber through the "staff" technicality, Nov. 17, 2014 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7URNmSnfwzM.
Published in November of 2014, a YouTube montage treats us at minute 2:01 to President Obama asserting regarding Obamacare that "There was not a provision in the law that was not extensively debated, uh, and was fully transparent," https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NJXEpiMyPM.
Yesterday, 8/4/2016, in defending the payment to Iran, Obama reused his same old trick in lecturing, about the US cash payment of $400 million to Iran that "We announced these payments in January, many months ago…It wasn't a secret we were completely open with everybody about it," https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HdMYJtRWWIm, minute 21:20.
IT'S WORKING
Yesterday Obama asserted that this ransom thing was nothing, dismissing the cash payment event in the nascent Iran Deal as a means of missing the fact that "This thing actually worked,"(minute 25:47) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HdMYJtRWWI. Which thing? The payoffs? The deal? The original selling point of making sure Iran slows down its nuclear weapons development? The ability of Iran to finance terrorism? It's unclear and based on the know-how we've got from Obamacare, what "thing" is working would be worth investigation.
Each of us knows the "it's" working claims of Obamacare even though for many of us the it's of affordability for consumers, protections for consumers from big increases in expenses, savings in premiums, keeping our plans if we want them, none of those ended up being the "IT'S" that's working, because naturally, those are not working. Instead the IT'S was changed to enrollment only because by every other standard, without funny math, Obamacare, based on what was promised has not and will not work for American consumers.
So pardon us for being skeptical at the repetition of the Obama justification strategy when it comes to the "ransom" payments so similar to the steps used to defend and twist the Obamacare scenario.
No consumer wanted health insurance reform NOT to work, it's simply dangerous fiscally and physically to pretend it does when it doesn't. Similarly nobody's hoping that the US DID pay ransom, it's simply worrisome that it appears that the US may have done so which would be dangerous to us because as the President stated, "We do not pay ransom, we didn't here and we won't in the future precisely because if we did then we would start encouraging, uh, Americans to be targeted…(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HdMYJtRWWI, minute 23:00).
